Ascent to Madness
I climb no stairs and I skirt no alleys as I begin my journey just like the rest of us contemplating the oil spills on the parking lot next to the dilapidated buildings of my own heart and I think we may rebuild the cities after wars but who will rebuild and make whole the souls of the crushed peoples of the world? No one. They will go on to harbor new hatreds and spawn new cataclysmic festivities all a part of making new departments like say homeland security. Come secure me and assure me that I will remain fixated within the convoluted confines of my own making and I will become assimilated within the paradigm of a mute consumerist society and I will live and die in this stereotypical acquiescence called modernity, but its okay its all for progress -stop this. This cannot be our identity; life is not a given yet existence is a paradox and between the paradigm and the paradox I’ll take twenty cents and keep the contradiction because my life is a pounding, a silence and a sounding and the only sound I’m hearing now is this cacophony of hypocrisy that I too can take pride in while we all give a hand in being sympathetic to the tragedies around us. It’s no wonder all of America is popping pills, smoking joints, or meticulously stagnating over some trivial aspect of their life –we’re all insane and yet we evade the mental institutions by painting the world as some chiaroscuristic image all the while eating our cereal and feigning a collected mind. But I dare not publicly speak up or officially deviate from the blindly policed destiny laid before us because I might be deported or worse disappeared, my existence unmade and the laws of man illogically revered. You may say words are just stones skipped on waters authoritatively frozen, but I say lets skip boulders and stop being afraid. Ladies and Gentleman, please excuse the gender binary for dramatic purposes, captain obvious would like to render the conclusion that America is in decline, but my ingenious proposal is this, that in our revolution we should strive for a higher consciousness without contrived intentions and as the current state of being is labeled sanity perhaps we should reclaim the name of our destination as madness and as all our festering ideals revolve around progress let us remain with the American spirit of climbing corporate ladders and begin this ascent to madness.
